Texas will be the center of the music world this week.

Texas Gets Loud This Week

Texans can get an earful this week if they head to Austin for South By Southwest. The annual festival began last Friday, but most of the things that take place in the first weekend tend to focus on tech, gaming, and cultural matters. Beginning today/tonight the meat-and potatoes of South By Southwest start taking place with bands everywhere.

How Many Bands?

Saying "bands everywhere" in Austin is really something that happens all the time in Austin. I should clarify and say that in addition to the local, Texas music, bands and fans from all over flood the city for shows. So what's a "flood"? That would be over 240 artists from across the globe. You'll see everything from tons of Texans to a band from Taiwan.

For fans, this event is about a love of music. For the industry, it's about finding "the next big thing". Finding your personal new favorite band or seeing a band get their start is a very emotionally gratifying experience. You may also get to catch a superstar doing a drop in set and/or there to promote some band that they've taken under their wing.

Other Events

If you need a break from music there are still plenty of film and TV events happening this week alongside the music offerings. I would imagine that if you're an industry pro you already know the layout for the things happening. if you're just a regular person looking to jump into a vibrant, electric, and awesome party scene, then there's still plenty of South By Southwest for you.
