34-year-old Lubbock musician Cameron Steward, affectionately known as "Cam St. Menace," is looking to the community for help to overcome a series of medical challenges that have left him down and out.

Cam was admitted to the ER at University Medical Center back in January after he began to have trouble breathing and started coughing up blood. After a slew of tests, it was determined he has Berger's Disease, and his kidneys are failing.

Berger's Disease is a chronic kidney disease characterized by a buildup of IgA antibodies in the filtering portion of the kidneys, which leads to inflammation and, in turn, damages the kidneys' ability to filter waste from blood. This is an autoimmune condition in which your immune system attacks your kidneys by mistake.

Most people who suffer from Berger's disease can live a normal life without a kidney transplant. Unfortunately, Cam is not one of those people and desperately needs a transplant. His condition was caused by a respiratory condition he endured in August of 2024 when his body produced too many antibodies to fight off his illness, leading to gradual kidney failure over the next few months.

From Cam:

"Since I keep having to go through surgeries, I haven’t been able to lift more than 10lbs since mid-January, which kinda contributes to the weak feeling. I mean, I’m trying to keep a positive attitude through all of this, but it's a real kick in the sack sometimes with stressing over hospital bills, dialysis bills, and paying for medication. One of the medications I’m on is $285 per bottle with insurance, and I have to have it to keep my phosphorus levels down since my kidneys aren’t filtering phosphorus anymore."

This is a desperate situation.

Cam is uninsured and now has to come up with a $10,000 deposit for the procedure, on his own self-pay route to get new kidneys. That's where you come in.

So far, Cam has only raised $1,939 toward his procedure. I know there are good people in Lubbock with big hearts and deep pockets who can help save my pal. He's only 34 and has a long life ahead of him and more music to make!
