Here Is The Best Way To Get To Fort Worth From Lubbock, Texas
There are any number of reasons why you may want to travel to Fort Worth, so you might want to make that trip an enjoyable one.
The Destination
Fort Worth is home to Billy Bob's and sooner or later, there's probably going to be an event you or concert you want to check out there. Fort Worth is also the home of the Japanese Gardens and the Fort Worth Zoo. There's also the Texas Motor Speedway, home of some top notch races and the occasional mega-concert.
The Trip
The trip from Lubbock to Fort Worth is pretty simple, and is also the way to Austin, except for that last leg. It's simple, you take Highway 84 East towards Post (Slaton is also on the way but most directional signs say Post). You'll travel all the way through Snyder and just past the small town of Roscoe, right before Sweetwater 84 East will merge with I-20 East. You will travel through north Abilene, Baird, Cisco and a little south of Weatherford. Shortly after that you have a choice to make. If you want to go to south Fort Worth, just stay on 1-20. If you want to go into the heart of Fort Worth you need to get on I-30 east. That's all there is, but I'll provide an even simpler explanation below.
The Stops
I frequently take this route to Austin, with the expectation being I head south of Abilene instead of north. It's really an enjoyable drive with lots of places to stop. I always hit Smokin Dick's Barbeque in Post, and the T.A. Travel Center in Sweetwater (there's also a "Loves" and new place called "Steel Penny"). This really isn't one of those trips where you have to worry about snacks or gas because there are plenty of places on the way and it's only about 4.5 hours in all.
Football!
I should note that there's that little ol' football stadium that Jerry Jones built called "AT&T Stadium" which is for most the #1 reason to head towards Fort Worth. If you take that I-30 exit that was previously discussed, it will take you right through Fort Worth and into Arlington, pretty much at the front door of the stadium.
Easy To Follow
Here's the route how I like to think of it.
Lubbock
Take 84 East To Post, through Slaton, Snyder
Watch for I-20 merge in Sweetwater
Through Merkel, Abilene, Clyde, Baird, Cisco, Thurber, Brock Junction, towards (south) Weatherford
I-20 and 1-30 are the same Interstate for a period of time, take I-30 for central Fort Worth, I-20 for south of town.
Happy Travels!
