Summer’s Here—So Why Not Cool Off in Brownfield, Texas?

If you’ve got kids and you’re looking for a great way to beat the West Texas heat, it might be time for a short road trip—specifically to Brownfield, Texas.

Now, let’s get this out of the way: Lubbock, what happened? At some point, the city government decided to punt on quality-of-life issues, and nowhere is that more obvious than in the complete lack of public pools. For a town this size, that’s just plain sad—especially for those of us who spent childhood summers soaking in community pools.

Which brings us to Brownfield—the unexpected summer MVP. A growing number of Lubbock parents have been packing up the kids and making the short drive to the Brownfield Aquatic Center, and for good reason.

Slides, Lazy Rivers, and No City Hassle—Just Summer Fun In Brownfield, Texas

This place is no basic pool. We’re talking two slides, a lazy river, lap lanes, and other cool features. There are even adults-only swim times, which might be the best thing you’ve heard all week.

Even better? The prices are right:

  • Adults: $5

  • Kids: $4

  • Seniors: $4

The pool is open to both residents and non-residents, so yes—Lubbock folks are welcome.

Brownfield is about 40 miles south of Lubbock, and with current speed limits, you'll be there in around 37 minutes. Grab a snack for the road and it’ll feel even faster on the way back.

Here’s the catch: capacity is 325 swimmers, so plan to arrive early if you want a spot in the water.

So once again, we say: Yeah Brownfield! Boo Lubbock!
Brownfield might have under 9,000 residents, but they’re clearly more ready for summer than the Hub City’s been in years.

Deadly Texas: The Lone Star State's Most Dangerous Insects & Arachnids

Encounters with Texas insects can be magical (think flights of Monarch butterflies!), but mostly they tend to be neutral or negative. Should you really worry about creepy crawlies in Texas? These are the insects and arachnids you probably should be aware of, as they all could prove potentially fatal (although that outcome is very rare).
