Celebrate the Life of Lubbock Comedian Jerrod Harper at Harperfest
Lubbock lost a great comedian, bartender, and person with the tragic death of Jerrod Harper in 2020. His family and friends have come together to create a memorable day of music, comedy, drinks and fun in his honor.
Harperfest will be held at Lonestar Oyster Bar, 3040 34th Street, on June 27th, 2021 from 2 to 11 p.m. Featured artists include Sparky's Garden, Alma Quartet, Mike's Project, Dave Martinez, Jalenn Earle & Colby Reeves, SPIVEY, Danny Cadra, Renegades of Folk, The Local Nobodys, Shane Rogers Band, Holly Harper, Labor XII, and several of his fellow comedians from the Laugh Hub City comedy scene. You can find out more about the event here on Facebook.
Jerrod was a close personal friend of mine. His death left a hole the size of Texas in my heart that I don't know if I'll ever get over. Harper was one of the first people I met in the stand-up comedy scene and he welcomed me with open arms. We used to sit around and write jokes over beers, often walking half-tipsy to the Art Bar at Cafe J to perform at the open mic night.
He was an incredible performer who loved his friends and family more than anything in the world, and someone who always found a way to make you feel like the most important person in the room when you were around him.
There are so many people excited to celebrate his life with a day dedicated to him. This inaugural festival will be a wonderful tribute to our friend Jerrod Harper and I hope that everyone comes out to show their support.
The mission of Harperfest is to benefit, support, and improve mental health for those within the service industry who are all too often overlooked. There is a $5 suggested donation at the door, and all of the proceeds go to H.U.G. (Harperfest Unity Grant). There will also be t-shirts available for sale.
Come out to support a wonderful person that we lost too soon. Let's remember our friend Jerrod together over some drinks, music, laughs and a good time.
