Pagans Will Take Over A Lubbock Park This Weekend!
There will be tomfoolery afoot this weekend in the Hub City
The Event
This weekend it's the return of Beltane in the park. There's no need for concern, it's just a bunch of crafty folks getting together for a fun day. Have no fear, no demons be summoned (or however someone in Old English would say it). This is the 16th year these folks have gathered for this event, highlighted by a traditional Maypole dance at 5 p.m. It's a great way to celebrate a little Irish culture and get together with some really fun people.
What Is Beltane?
Beltane essentially celebrates the peak of Spring and beginning of Summer. It is Gaelic in origin and is traditionally celebrated somewhere between May 1st and May 5th, but in Lubbock we'll get a head start on it this Saturday the 27th. Beltane is mentioned in the earliest of Irish literature and translates to "bright", "white", or "bright fire". Bonfires were traditional a part of the celebration, but you won't find any of those in a Lubbock park.
The Celebration
What you will find at Beltane In The Park is a lot of fun people displaying crafty wares. There will also be food trucks, flower crowns and more. Along with the old pagan traditions will be some new-age type things like yoga and learning about crystals. This is just a great opportunity to be exposed to some of the cool culture that isn't always on your radar. The event will be held at Clapp Park from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
