Wylie Church Mailbox Tampering Leads To Surprising Arrest
38-year-old Viorel Velcu was just arrested for allegedly attempting to pry open a church mailbox in Wylie, Texas, on more than one occasion. FLOCK Safety Cameras tracked Velcu's vehicle from Houston, leading to his eventual arrest.
What We Know:
On July 6th, church staff reported that mailboxes in the parking lot had been pried open by someone on several different occasions, prompting an investigation. Detectives were able to identify a suspected vehicle using FLOCK Safety Cameras and determined the car was being driven to the Dallas Metroplex, specifically Wylie, and they knew they had their guy.
The driver of the vehicle, Viroel Velcu, from Houston, arrived at the church, got out of his vehicle, and stood next to the mailbox. He was then stopped and arrested for unlawful use of a criminal instrument, mail theft, and a separate arrest warrant from the Flower Mound Police Department for other mail theft. This is not his first rodeo; however, it is not clear if his other mail theft charge is from a church or not.
Stealing From The Church? Not A Great Move...
All I know is that you have to be pretty brave to steal from God. Ha. Kind of hard to get away with that one! Here's hoping Velcu has a change of heart and gets his life right, or at the very least, leaves the church mailboxes alone.
