COVID-19 Cases at UMC Have Drastically Changed Since Last Month

Things seem to be on the up and up again, with the number of COVID-19 cases in Lubbock hospitals decreasing over the past month.

From August to September, the number of COVID-19 patients at UMC Health System continued to rise thanks to the Delta variant. UMC began publicly announcing on their social media the exact number of patients, as well as the percentage of these patients that were unvaccinated. This helped shine a light on just how bad things could get, and how effective the COVID-19 vaccine is.

When they made their first post on August 16th, there were 96 COVID-19 patents under their care. This number increased to 105 patients by September 6th, with 99 percent of those patients being unvaccinated.

The number of patients under their care slowly began to decrease as the weeks passed. Things seemed to only be getting slightly better until October 4th, when UMC posted that the number of patients had decreased by 30 people. This improvement continued through October, bringing some hope that things might be getting better.

As of yesterday, October 25th, they have only 28 COVID-19 patients, with 95 percent of them being unvaccinated. This is an incredible sign of progress, but we still have a long way to go. We all need to work together so that there are zero COVID-19 patients.
