While Others Flounder And Fail, This Retailer Is Thriving In Texas
In uncertain economic times, you can still count on folks to buy certain things- bread and toilet paper come to mind.
But even the cost of life's everyday essentials has skyrocketed, so where do you turn to get the things that are an absolute must-have?
For many, it's a quick, no-nonsense, no-extras trip to their neighborhood "dollar" store, which is one reason that Dollar General is thriving while other retailers are floundering here in Texas.
Why Is Dollar General So Successful In Texas?
There are far more Dollar General locations in Texas than in any state. With nearly 2000 locations, Texas has over 1000 more stores than Dollar General's home state of Kentucky.

Last year, Dollar General opened its 20,000th store in Alice, Texas, and celebrated by making huge donations to local charitable causes. Clearly, there is a special relationship between Texas and DG.
According to QZ.com, part of DG's success is that it serves communities that Walmart and Target do not reach, that is, rural places. Texas has many such areas.
Additionally, it also serves as a place where folks with a tight budget can grab a few items at a low price.

This creates a sort of irony, as economic downturns tend to boost DG sales:
Its vast store network and focus on low-priced essentials makes it a reliable barometer of consumer strain — a dynamic that sees Dollar General’s sales and profits lift when household budgets tighten.
Is Dollar General Expanding In Texas?
DG recently committed to opening 575 new stores in the U.S and remodeling over 2000. And while they did not specifically mention new or remodeled Texas stores, it is quite likely Texas will see some of both.
And while DG will feel the pinch of tariffs like any other retailer, it will continue to see the benefit of more budget-conscious shoppers for quite some time. DG expects a sizable increase in both net sales growth and same-store sales.
And they'll likely see me in line with my toilet paper, too.
