Nothing says holidays like giving back to others, or that stuff that falls from the sky called snow, but the next best thing aside from food are the songs. Songs, specifically holiday carols, seem to spark that holiday spirit in many of us because it is usually the first sign of the holidays. There is also the running gag of Mariah Carey defrosting just in time for December to sing her hit All I Want for Christmas Is You.

This year the Buddy Holly Center will be hosting their Caroling in the Courtyard event to get everyone into the holiday spirit. Like the name suggests there will be caroling for everyone to enjoy with a special performance from the First United Methodist Church's Chancel Choir taking center stage. For those of us that are wanting to showcase our musical talents there will also be holiday karaoke during choir breaks.

This would not be a holiday even without one of the important parts and that's food. Before you get your grub on remember that this event is also a food drive benefitting the Catholic Charities Diocese of Lubbock. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable, or non-expired, food items in cans, boxes, or bags but glass jars are not accepted. After making those food donations enjoy some tasty warm food from the Mi Mesa food truck, Mi Mesa is known for their street tacos, tamales, and birria.

There will also be cookie decorating, snowflake ornament making, cookies and the classic hot chocolate at the education station. This event will be Friday, December 9, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is free to the public, more information can be found online, on social media, or by calling the Buddy Holly Center at 806-775-3560.
