Here’s What Those Three Little Letters On Your Facebook Feed Mean
It can be tough to keep up with all the trends on social media, but I'm here to help.
The Electronic Age
In case you haven't noticed, we live in an electronic age with a social media chaser. Trends are always changing. Slang and abbreviations are the order of the day as well (all of this and I'm still double-spacing on posts more often than not). It can be a heck of a lot to keep up with. Things can even get weirder when you dive down into terms that are popular in your area, or in your friends group.
Keeping Up
Being A totally bitchen' and cool radio dude, I have to stay on top of these things so I know what's happening in the streets. Yes, I get right down there with the folks and try to figure out what they're saying and why they are saying it. I also like to overexplain things, but part of that is me delaying the big reveal until I've decided how I'm going to mask the profanity that's coming. So yeah, I am intentionally stretching this out.
The Letters
So I noticed this reoccurring on my Facebook Feed:
What could that possibly mean? If it's any clue, the letters were first used by my Hispanic friends before being adopted by a wider audience. Do they mean "File Transfer Protocol", or maybe "Friends That Pokeman"? The answer is no, they do not mean that, the mean something much worse.
Before The Reveal
Okay, we're grown ups here (at least I hope we are). Let's do this. If you see an "@" symbol ahead, your job is to mentally change it to the last vowel in the alphabet, not including "Y" which is only sometimes a vowel. Fair, enough?
Okay Here Goes
F.T.P stands for:
Yipes!
So there you go, you are now a learned scholar of social and digital media slang. Now go LOL to your friends about this.
