I guess those pandemic habits die hard.
Toilet Paper
I have several friends who have visited warehouse stores and their toilet paper supplies were running thin or gone. The rest of the stores seem to be doing okay, but you know how a run on something in one place can quickly become a run on everyplace. Now what is happening is purely panic buying on the part of some truly ignorant people.
Why Panic Buy
The reason for the panic buying in the port workers strike. During the pandemic there were many things we couldn't get because various supply lines were interrupted. Having the port workers on strike will no doubt make some goods hard to get or at least delayed. It is truly a distraction and an interruption of daily life that we really don't need right now. Again, ten or twenty years from now, I believe historians will say we were/are still in some kind of post traumatic phase from the pandemic.
It's Really Dumb
So it takes a lot to call something dumb, or stupid, but I have a very good reason for it in this case. 92.5% of the toilet paper used in the U.S. is manufactured in the U.S., with most of the rest of the remaining 7.5% coming from Canada and Mexico. So, do you want to guess what is not needed to bring toilet paper to your neighborhood store? That's right, "ports". If truckers were on strike, maybe I could see past some panic buying of t.p., but this hoarding makes zero sense.
People Are The Problem
The only reason to buy extra now is because there are hoarders out their shrinking up the supply, and then you become part of the problem. There is absolutely no reason why your favorite store won't have stock on the shelves almost immediately. It may take less than a half-second to do so because they underestimated the dumbness out there, but I don't think this "shortage" will last more than a day or two.
P.S.
Invest in one of these and you'll never have a problem. I love mine, they're cheap and easy to hook up.
