Hope For Minds Color Run Brings Lubbock Together For Kids With Brain Injuries

And sometimes...it's about making a real difference for families who need it most.

That's exactly what Hope for Minds is hoping to accomplish with its 2026 Color Run/Walk, returning to Lubbock on Saturday, August 22nd, at 9 a.m. on the campus of Lubbock-Cooper High School.

If you've never participated in a color run before, imagine crossing the finish line covered in bright colors, surrounded by music, smiling families, food trucks, and kids having the time of their lives. It's less about speed and more about celebrating community while supporting an incredible cause.

More Than Just A Fun Run

Hope for Minds exists to help children and families after pediatric brain injuries, something no parent ever expects to face.

A serious brain injury doesn't just affect a child. It impacts the entire family. Parents often miss weeks or even months of work while staying by their child's hospital bed. Medical bills pile up. Specialized therapy and equipment can cost thousands of dollars, and many treatments simply aren't covered by insurance.

That's where Hope for Minds steps in.

The organization helps families access recovery therapies, adaptive equipment, transportation, home renovations, medical resources, and even emergency financial assistance for necessities like rent, utilities, and groceries when families suddenly lose income while caring for their child.

The Numbers Are Incredible

Since launching in 2011, Hope for Minds has made an incredible impact across the country.

The organization has:

• Invested more than $3.3 million into therapies, medical equipment, transportation, and recovery resources.
• Helped more than 7,000 children and family members across 47 states.
• Provided caregiver, sibling, and survivor support groups.
• Assisted families with medical bills, Medicaid navigation, advocacy, and individualized support.
• Never charged families for any of its services.

That's an amazing legacy and one that continues to grow every year.

Organizers are planning:

One of the things I love most about Lubbock is how often this community shows up for one another.

Whether it's supporting local charities, raising money for neighbors in need, or volunteering for great causes, the South Plains has a reputation for taking care of its own.
