Oktoberfest In Lubbock: Food, Beer, And Community Fun

Who needs Lübeck when you’ve got Lubbock? This past weekend, the crew at The Escondido Grill and Spirit Ranch threw one heck of an Oktoberfest celebration, and let me tell you—it was Wunderbar!

Oktoberfest, if you didn’t know, is a two-week Bavarian festival that’s been going strong in Germany since the 1800s. It’s all about the food, the music, the culture, and—of course—the beer. And while we might not have been in Munich, it sure felt like it thanks to the folks at Escondido.

Brats, Beer, and Bavarian Fun

From the second you walked in, you could tell it was going to be a blast. There were activities for the kids, incredible food, plenty of lederhosen, and live music that kept the crowd clapping and dancing.

The Stein Holding Showdown

One of the highlights of the day had to be the stein holding competition—a test of pure strength, balance, and stubbornness. I decided to give it a try myself, and let me tell you, it’s a LOT tougher than it looks. Three minutes in, my arm was shaking like a leaf in a dust storm. It still hurts today!

We also had a best dressed contest, and let’s just say Lubbock showed up in style. There were suspenders, dirndls, hats, and even a few fake mustaches in the crowd.

Prost to the Crew at Escondido

Huge thanks to Jason and all the crew at Escondido Grill & Spirit Ranch for putting on such a great event and for letting me serve as emcee for the day. My mom, my sister (who lived in Germany for 12 years!), and my girlfriend all had an awesome time soaking in the sights—and sampling a few brews, too.
