Lubbock City Council Members Fire Back at Water Park Claims

Members of the Lubbock City Council are responding to claims made by a company called Aqua Cabana Water Park and are seeming to question whether the water park was even a real company or not.

On Wednesday evening, Aqua Cabana Water Park posted on Facebook that they were scrapping plans to build a water park in Lubbock. The water park blamed the City of Lubbock and the Lubbock City Manager for being difficult to work with. They also posted that citizens should reach out to council members if the decision "ruffles your feathers".

The water park has since deleted the Facebook post. But Lubbock citizens were still very unhappy with what had been posted and reported by local media. Citizens took to social media to complain that the Lubbock City Council was killing fun projects in Lubbock. By Thursday evening, members of the Lubbock City Council pointed fingers at the water park, and some interesting points were raised.

Lubbock City Councilwoman Jennifer Wilson took to Facebook and announced that the City of Lubbock never stopped a water park from opening and in fact, there was no business called Aqua Cabana Water Park that had requested permits or plans for a water park. Councilwoman Wilson also commented on Facebook that the images used by the water park on their website are stock images from another park in another state. You can read the full Facebook post below.

It appears the owner of the property is a homebuilder and is currently working on plans to build homes next to the proposed site and could have been using a proposed Waterpark as an incentive for buyers.

Councilwoman Wilson also posted that media reporters should "seek out facts before posting such sensationalized nonsense and upsetting the Lubbock Citizens over a project that never actually existed".

In a press release, the City of Lubbock wrote that "In short, nobody had communicated with the City at all regarding plans for 'Aqua Cabana Water Park'".
