Lubbock Organization Sounds Alarm Over Number Of Abandoned Dogs and Cats
If you think you have noticed more dogs and cats running around in your neighborhood or if you live out beyond the city limits of Lubbock and have seen more dogs and cats being abandoned, sadly it seems, it's not just your eyes playing tricks on you.
The number of abandoned dogs and cats continues to increase in and around Lubbock and according to The Haven which is a non-kill animal shelter that also adopts out dogs and cats. How bad is the problem of dogs and cats being surrendered or just dumped on the side of the road? Just a few days ago, The Haven took to social media to explain how they wish they could take in more pets, but it isn't always easy to do because of the number of dogs coming in and sadly, the drop in adoption numbers.
The part that stood out to me the most was where they wrote about "litters of puppies are being dumped everywhere". As someone who is a dog owner and as someone who just has a conscious, I don't see how anyone could dump a dog, much less a litter of puppies off in the country to fend for themselves.
I don't know what the answer is to the problem that seems to plague, not only Lubbock, but other communities as well when it comes to pet ownership. There don't seem to be enough responsible pet owners out there and sadly, innocent animals pay the price of the selfishness of owners. Take care of your pets, be responsible, and if you can, help out organizations like The Haven who are trying their best to find homes for dogs and cats. You can tell in the post they made on Facebook they wish they could do more, they just don't have the resources.
When it comes to abandoned dogs and cats, we simply must do better as a community.
