Retail Giant Macy’s Set To Close Stores In Texas as Financial Problems Continue
Retail giant Macy's is still struggling and now they are planning on closing stores throughout the United States including location in Texas. The closures are part of what Macy's calls "A Bold New Chapter" that at this time will focus on closing stores that aren't performing well.
Macy's announced last year that they would likely be closing around 150 stores across the United States over three years. According to the Houston Chronicle, Macy's announced last month that they would close 66 stores and now we know which stores are closing.
Which Macy's Locations in Texas Are Closing?
In this first round of closures, six Macy's locations in Texas are closing. Those locations are:
Houston- Almeda Mall
Fairview- Fairview Town Center
Plano- Shops at Willow Bend
Southlake- Southlake Town Square
Fort Worth- West Bend
Flower Mound- Highlands of Flower Mound
According to the Houston Chronicle and Axios, liquidation sales will begin this month and are scheduled to last for 8-12 weeks. A full list of closures can be found here.
Macy's isn't the only big box retailer struggling in this economy. Many different big box retailers in recent years have either declared bankruptcy or closed. Big box retailers are having to compete with a sluggish economy and also a customer base that is making more and more purchases online.
We will let you know if Macy's plans to close any more Texas location this year.
