A New Study Crowns Texas The Hotbed For Polyamory

If you've ever been curious about a polyamory lifestyle and you life in Texas, you're not alone! Maybe it's the fact that there are so many shows now about polyamory, or maybe we're living in a "free love" era, but polyamory has never been so popular.

Texans Are Leading the Polyamory Trend

A new study from the polyamory dating site Sister Wives says Texans are asking questions like “is polyamory right for me?” and “what is polyamory?” thousands of times every single month. And in the past 30 days, Google searches about poly-relationships have surged 5,000%.

Turns out the Lone Star State has been doing a little more exploring than just Buc-ee’s aisles and Whataburger menus.

Texas Takes the No. 1 Spot in the Nation

According to data from more than 15,000 Sister Wives members, Texas is officially the most poly-curious state in America, making up over 10% of all users on the platform.

That’s more than California, Florida, New York, everyone. It also helps that we’re searching the word “polyamory” more than 18,000 times every single month. Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio even landed in the Top 10 U.S. cities most interested in polyamory and polygamy.

El Paso wasn’t in the Top 10 but if you’ve ever dated here, you’re probably in a polyamorous relationship and you’re not even aware of it!

So, Why Texas?

A couple of reasons the study points to, one of them is the huge singles scene. Texas was ranked the second-best state for dating in 2024, thanks to our social life and the fact that we have, you know, actual things to do.

We also have big cities with big communities. Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio have massive populations, diverse social circles, and active dating apps. We’re also kinda chill about things. More and more Texans are open to alternative relationship styles, and the conversations are happening out loud instead of in secret group chats.
