The Best Ways Lubbock Residents Can Help Flood Victims
In the early hours of July 4, 2025, a torrential downpour hit the Texas Hill Country along the Guadalupe River, just northwest of San Antonio, near Kerr County. In just 45 minutes, the river rose an astounding 26 feet. At least 104 people have been declared dead, 28 of whom were children.
Out Of Nowhere
Many of those hit by this devastating storm had no warning. Some critics are pointing to dismantled warning systems as a reason for the lack of preparedness, while officials continue to blame the disasters on natural causes or an "act of God."
Whatever the case, the destruction has been more than devastating, and some Texans are in desperate need of assistance.

How To Help
You've probably seen dozens of videos on Facebook of those affected calling for help from the state. While it may be tempting to load up your truck and race over there, it's important to make sure you DON'T add to the chaos. Self-volunteering could get in the way, and bringing supplies to the direct location could make things more difficult for rescuers and aid workers. Please contact these organizations first to make arrangements before you go out on your own!
Donate Time, Money, and Resources Here:
The Center Point Volunteer Fire Department - Send a check by mail or donate to their Venmo account, @CPVFDTX.
The Kerr County Flood Relief Fund - This fund goes toward rescue and rebuilding efforts in Kerr County.
The Salvation Army's Kerrville Kroc Center - They are currently asking for non-perishable food, bleach, diapers, and hygiene items. If you are in the area, you may drop the items off at 855 Hays Street in Kerrville, Texas.
Texsar - This volunteer-based search and rescue organization is currently deployed to areas that were hit hard by the flood. These guys are a huge help to Texans in emergencies and were awarded the Governor's Volunteer Award for Excellence in Disaster Volunteerism in 2023 for their statewide efforts in 2022.
World Central Kitchen - This organization provides food and water to emergency responders in disaster situations. They are currently seeking monetary donations.
Austin Pets Alive! - These folks have taken in over 150 displaced pets since the flood. They need monetary donations more than anything right now, as 2000 people have already responded to their calls for foster pet parents. You can also donate pet supplies to help alleviate the cost of the influx of furry friends in their facilities.
Donate directly to verified GoFundMe pages. Please beware of scammers. For a list of trusted verified accounts, click here.
Several volunteers are driving up from the Lubbock area to donate supplies to a few organizations in Travis County on Thursday, July 10th. They would love your help! They will be donating the following items: non-perishable foods, hydration drinks, granola bars, toiletries, baby stuff (diapers, baby wipes, bottles), pet food, leashes, cleaning supplies (trash bags, paper towels, 409), yard tools (rakes, shovels, loppers). Please reach out to Alejandra Salazar at (361)455-6412 for ways you can help.
Thank You
Thank you to anyone and everyone across the state who has jumped on the bandwagon to help those who are suffering. This kind of devastation isn't something we see every day, and a flood of this magnitude is foreign territory for most of us. Thank you for helping strangers you've never met and setting the example of kindness and mercy for us all.
