Lubbock-Cooper ISD Lifts Mask Mandate; Lubbock ISD Statement
Following Governor Greg Abbott's announcement on Tuesday, March 2nd, Lubbock-Cooper ISD rescinded the district's mask mandate effective March 10th.
Greg Abbott made an appearance at Lubbock's Montelongo's Restaurant to make the statewide announcement that all business in the State of Texas can open at 100% capacity. Not only that, but the Governor also said that the statewide mask mandate would be lifted. All of this would go into effect Wednesday, March 10th.
This announcement comes soon after every hospital district in Texas had a COVID-19 hospitalization rate below 15%. This is the first time the numbers have been this low in many months.
Just hours after the Governor's announcement, Lubbock-Cooper ISD issued their own statement saying that as of Wednesday, March 10th, the district would no longer require anyone to wear facial coverings. Students and staff who wish to continue wearing a mask are free to do so.
The district said they would continue disease mitigation practices, which includes frequent hand washing and enhanced cleaning processes. Additional updates regarding COVID-19 guidelines will be provided in the coming days.
Lubbock-ISD, on the other hand, issued this statement later in the day:
Lubbock ISD has worked closely in partnership with our community’s public health leaders through the pandemic and will continue to do so. We will consult with the City of Lubbock Health Department and other officials and make a decision regarding mask procedures after those consultations.
