I expected this. It doesn't make it any less embarrassing, but Justice Of The Peace Jim Hansen has announced that he will no longer perform any marriages (due to the marriage equality ruling).  This is the type of move that was championed by Governor Greg Abbot and other Texas officials. Now, we have a justice of the peace who was able to significantly cut his workload by claiming this exemption.

Please no more talk of welfare cheats while we allow elected officials to suck money out of the system and then claim their religion keeps them from doing a big part of their jobs. I perform weddings and the first thing I can tell you is, a wedding is really no more than spelling out a legal contract between two humans. You can put all the flowery language and blessings in that you want, but at it's core, it's a community property agreement with the word love stamped on it.

Our gay friends, neighbors and relatives are offered "equal protection under the law". They shouldn't have to get a license in Connecticut and then find out it's not valid in some other state. This is why we have some laws that transcend states. Part of that is making sure they are treated right in the state where they live.

Here's my video, it has a little language in it.
