Man That Said He Was "Seeing Demons" Pleads Guilty to Shooting

A Lubbock man pleaded guilty on Friday, January 21st to a shooting that happened back in June of 2016.

Lubbock Police originally responded to the 4800 block of Canton Avenue at around 1:30 a.m. in the morning for reports of a disturbance between 2 people. It was said that one person had been shot inside of an apartment.

KAMC News reports that on arrival, a man and woman was found suffering from gunshot wounds. 40-year-old Geory Smith was shot in the back and was suffering from life-threatening injuries, while Kimbra Andrade was found shot in the hand.

Jerry Lee Garza, age 26 at the time, said that before the shooting he was "seeing demons." The details around what exactly he meant by this were not clear.

Garza, now 31-years-old, was also indicted for assaulting a police officer on top of his 2 counts of aggravated assault. That case, however, was dropped as part of his plea deal. It was also noted that Garza had prior convictions for burglary and illegal possession of a firearm.

Garza was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the 2016 shooting.
