Close your eyes for a few seconds and think back to growing up in Lubbock during the 90s.

You probably remember the people, the places, and the hairstyles that we all wish we could erase from history entirely. But, you're extra lucky if you can pinpoint a few of the sounds.

Some sounds can instantly transport you back to the old days faster than any photograph or home movie. One second, you're in bed, scrolling through Facebook, and the next you're nine years old again, riding a scooter through the neighborhood and doing your best not to think about having only 2 days left to finish reading Lord of the Flies.

Here are some of the greatest sounds from the 90s that I'm betting most Lubbock kids  remember all too well:

1. The Screech of Wheels on The TV Cart

Nothing sounded sweeter than hearing the television cart rolling down the hallways to your classroom. You knew there would be a good chance that learning was about to be postponed, or at the very least, shortened with a video.

2. The Dial-Up Internet Connection

This may be the unofficial soundtrack of my childhood. What about yours?

The beeps, screeches, and robotic noises meant that you were moments closer to using AOL Instant Messenger. It also meant that nobody else in the house was going to be able to use the phone...

3. The Ice Cream Truck

This sound is a solid 10 out of 10.

The second the music started, every kid on my block was outside counting change and deciding on which cartoon character with gumball eyes they would be chomping on. I always went for Tweety Bird. My brother, a Ninja Turtle.

4. The Tornado Drill Announcements

Even if there wasn't a cloud in the sky, hearing those words immediately got our attention. For 5 minutes, we were all convinced we were living through a major weather event.

5. The Sound of VHS Tapes Rewinding

We were lucky enough to have the fancy rewinder that made the process go faster. I think we may have even had two of them. Can you believe they used to sell a device whose sole purpose was rewinding movies? Wild.

6. The Lunchroom Eruption on Pizza Day

The cafeteria at school was less than fine dining...but pizza day? That was an all-out event.

7. The Crack of a Screen Door

Kids running in and out all day.

The screen door never got a day off.

This sound was usually followed by,

"MAKE SURE YOU CLOSE THAT DOOR GOOD! YOU'RE LETTING THE AC OUT!"

12. The Snap of a Pogo Ball, Skip-It, or Whatever Toy Was Popular That Week

Every year, we'd have a new toy to obsess over. Between all of my friends and me, we had them all, and we 100% tried them ALL out on the trampoline. How are we still alive?

13. The Wind

If you grew up here, this one needs no explanation. It was especially wild in the middle of the night during big storms in a house with old windows. I remember listening to it lying on the pull-out sofa at my grandmother's house, praying we weren't going to be obliterated by a tornado.

The 90s in Lubbock were an unforgettable era for kids, sounds included. Some of these sounds have disappeared completely, but were so burned into our memory, we'll recognize them forever.
