A video posted to social media on Wednesday night, June 3rd, showing what appears to be a couple of Lubbock police officers attempting to subdue an individual while a dog looks to be attacking the officers.

The video immediately began to spark outrage from Lubbock citizens, especially since the incident is said to have happened shortly after the Lubbock Police Chief promised that these types of incidents would not be tolerated in this community.

The video depicting a couple of officers appearing to attempt to subdue an individual while a dog is seen to look as if it attacking the officers, quickly began to circulate throughout the community and the video was even sent to the Lubbock Police Department Facebook page according to a comment made on the video post.

Later in the afternoon on Thursday, June 4th, Lubbock Police Department responded on social media to the incident captured on video.

The statement from LPD reads in part, "The officer’s command staff was immediately made aware of the incident, and the initial steps of reviewing the use of force began, per policy."

It's a sad day for Lubbock law enforcement and for citizens who peacefully protested for change less than a week ago.

It's still early in the review of the abbreviated video by investigators, but for now, it simply doesn't give citizens the reassurance that police are doing their best to refrain from using excessive force.

I'll reserve judgment of the situation and the parties involved until all of the facts are disclosed but the optics of the entire situation is bad no matter your opinion about current affairs.
