Lubbock Storm Hits Hard—But Where’s the Follow-Up?
Lubbock experienced a severe weather event last week. At one point, it was reported that multiple tornadoes were on the ground. So... where’s the follow-up?
We may be beating this tornado thing to death, but the only way we’re going to improve is by figuring out what actually happened—and how we can better prepare for the next time.
Right now, I feel like I’m being gaslit. There’s been almost no solid post-storm reporting. I’ve already mentioned how scattered and chaotic the initial coverage was, but you’d think someone would have clarified things by now.
Lubbock Was Hit Hard—So Where’s the Storm Follow-Up?
I understand that nature doesn’t owe us answers—but I thought science might. How many tornadoes were actually confirmed? Did they all begin to form and then fizzle out? How close were we to a true disaster?
Here’s one thing I do know: the hail was insane. We saw widespread damage across Lubbock—from snapped trees to shattered windows. One of our staff members had their car pummeled to the point of near destruction. Take a look at this:
And yet, I’ve barely seen any post-storm analysis. You’d think people would want to talk about this “battle” we all just survived. We may be used to wild weather in West Texas, but this storm was on another level. It revealed some serious flaws in how we detect, communicate, and respond to these threats.
If we want to get better, we can’t just move on. We need facts, follow-up, and a plan.
