I love Lubbock's StarCare, because they saved my life.

I'm super open about my mental health journey, and I have no shame (nor should I) in relating my experience under observation at StarCare. They kept me from hurting myself and did so with an amazing amount of compassion and care. To this day, I still get those frozen PB&Js on occasion because it reminds me of how nice they were. It's become the ultimate comfort food.

StarCare really does care about your mental well-being, and they've established specific COVID-19 mental health talk and text lines as follows:

Talk: 806-740-1450

Text: 806-516-3205

The lines are available Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. This is a great option if the coronavirus pandemic has you feeling overwhelmed or really stressed. For many folks, the ability to get out and socialize was vital to their mental health, myself included. Being cooped up is no good for a Type-A, and I've been feeling a little frazzled for months.

Luckily, there are tactics and resources to help and StarCare are experts at finding them for you. They help me speak to a psychiatrist for free and without a wait. Trying to find one on your own can be a grueling, annoying and lengthy process. And even after all that, your psychiatrist might be a total jerk. I'm 2 for 2 on jerks outside of StarCare.

Very important: if you are feeling suicidal, call 800-273-8255 any time. They can get you to care. You are beautiful and unique and we need you here.
