McDonald’s Murder-For-Hire: How The First McDonald’s In Lubbock Led To Prison Time
Let me start with an important caveat: I wish I had been able to find more information about this fascinating case. I'm usually amazing at digging stuff up online; however, I was only able to find one source (and a denied appeal with no useful information) about how Lubbock's first McDonald's was at the center of a murder-for-hire plot.

The First McDonald's In Lubbock
The first McDonald's in Lubbock was located at 50th & Ave T, which now has... a McDonald's. While the building is new, that space has been slinging Happy Meals for nearly 60 years. It was rebuilt in 2016 under the ownership of Hugo Vargas, who apparently still owns several in the area. But back in 1968, the first McDonald's was owned by a pair of families, the Boldts and the Mraovics.

The Would-Be Deadly Dispute
According to The Lubbock Avalanche Journal:
A dispute over ownership of the franchise between the Boldt family and the Mraovic family boiled over in 1979 when Vaso V. Mraovic was caught hiring a hit man to murder Arthur Boldt. Mraovick was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison. The Boldt family eventually prevailed in the franchise ownership litigation.
Tell Me More PLEASE
After a heroic amount of googling on my part, I really found nothing else about this case. To be fair, it is ancient by internet standards, and unfortunately, my work schedule doesn't allow for a few hours spent going through microfilm at the library to find out more (I wish it did - that would be heaven to me). So if some kindly librarian wants to reach out to me with more juicy details, I'd be forever grateful.
