Minor League Soccer Is Coming To Lubbock
Move over Ted Lasso, minor league soccer is coming to Lubbock in 2022 according to a press release from the new club being built in Lubbock.
The Lubbock Matadors will begin play in May of 2022 here in Lubbock. The Matadors will play in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) which, according to the team's site and a press release has close to 100 teams across the United States participating.
The Matadors will play in the NPSL Lone Star Conference which is the home conference of the NPSL National Champion Denton Diablos. The Diablos had four players drafted into Major League Soccer this year.
The press release states that this will be high-level soccer that is also affordable entertainment.
“We will bring the world’s game to the Hub City by successfully establishing the Lubbock Matadors as a key member of the community, providing quality, affordable entertainment and high-level men’s soccer in a great stadium while introducing Lubbock Matadors players as ambassadors for the beautiful game and positive role models for Lubbock youth,” Managing Partner Michael Hitchcock said.
The Lubbock Matadors are teaming up with Texas Tech University and Lubbock Christian University by allowing students to gain sports management experience by building their Front Office Team.
The team will consist of players recruited from around the country while also giving an opportunity for those in Lubbock and the surrounding areas to have a chance to try-out.
The team's website already has an online store and information about season tickets with more information on the way.
