New Online Tool Makes Texas Police Officer Licenses Searchable
A new online lookup tool by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement is now available to the public to check out the status of former and current Texas police officers, Texas jailers, and even telecommunications.
Checking out a Texas officer's license used to require you to jump through a couple of hoops with an official request submission under the Texas Public Information Act. Those days are in the past now, and you can easily creep through an officer's information.
However, you will have to register to use the new lookup tool. Afterward, you can find information including training records, training compliance, education information, and the dates licenses were issued.
Information regarding undercover officers will not be available, for obvious reasons. You won't find any identifying personal information on them at all.
The new public database is courtesy of TCOLE's sunset bill, Senate Bill 1445, passed by Sen. Angela Paxton, R-McKinney, last year.

I think it's pretty spiffy, don't you? We should be able to ask reasonable questions about the men and women in charge of keeping us safe.
I'd love to hear your opinion. I feel this new tool will be met with mixed reviews. Please drop me a comment below this article, or reach me at Chrissy.Covington@townsquaremedia.com!
