Sam's Southern Eatery (4919 34th Street) is now open in Lubbock in the former location of Lee's Cafe, next to Domino's.

This is after a few delays prevented them from opening on their original target date of February 15th. This comes as no surprise, as many establishments have had to maneuver and adapt over the last year to either open or stay open in light of how upside-down the word has been.

We originally reported that Sam's Southern Eatery was coming to Lubbock back in January, but now that they've jumped through every hoop, we're ready for some piping-hot, freshly fried (or grilled) seafood.

Something that's recently come to my attention is that many Lubbock restaurants claim to serve catfish, but in fact pass off swai, a cheaper and lower quality fish, as catfish. Not only is this unethical, but it's also technically illegal in many states. According to a Facebook comment from Sam's, their catfish is the real deal. Although if you prefer tilapia, they serve that as well.

(As an aside: if you're wondering if the place you're eating at is serving you real catfish, ask your server. It's your right to know what you're eating and paying for. Maybe if enough consumers are aware of this issue, businesses that are being shady will amend their cheapskate behavior.)

In addition to their diverse array of seafood options, everything from oysters to crab cakes, Sam's also offers chicken and burgers, so it's sure to have something for nearly everyone.

Welcome to Lubbock, Sam's Southern Eatery -- we can't wait to try your seafood.
