It's Pearl Harbor Day, so being open today is kind of important to the museum.

The Silent Wings Museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today in observance of Pearl Harbor Day. The Museum is practicing proper social distancing and safety measures and masks ARE REQUIRE for entry. The museum is at 6202 I-27 (map below).

I can't think of a better time for a little urban exploration. So many times in our lives we live or visit a place and never bother to really get under its skin and see what's going on. Funds are not a problem either, because a visit is free today!

Now if for some reason you can't make it today, the Silent Wings Museum is offering free admission with a donation of a new, unwrapped toy for Toys For Tots through December 15th. If you have a little family coming in for the holidays you can visit the museum ten to five Tuesdays through Saturdays (but closed Christmas Eve and Christmas).

If you haven't been to the Silent Wings Museum or don't know what it is, it's a tribute to the glider pilots of World War II. Yes, you read that correctly, these planes glided, powerless to their destinations. This was done so that some could go undetected behind enemy lines.
