Slaton Man Found Not Guilty of Sexual Assault of a Minor
A man from Slaton has been found not guilty for sexually assaulting a young girl.
According to court records, 32-year-old Asencion Martinez Jr. was arrested in June 2015 and accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl from September 2010 through September 2011.
The girl’s mother, who had a relationship with Martinez, called Slaton police to report the abuse in May of 2015. She said Martinez admitted to the abuse and apologized to her when she confronted him. Martinez denied that ever happened.
Last week, Martinez finally went to trial after being re-indicted in December 2019.
During the trial, the alleged victim took the stand to describe several incidents of sexual abuse in detail. But the defense drew attention to inconsistent testimony from the mother and the alleged victim.
On Tuesday, a jury found Martinez not guilty on all charges against him.
