South Plains Food Bank Raises Over $500,000 During U Can Share Food Drive
Over the weekend, the South Plains Food Bank wrapped up this year's U Can Share food drive.
The U Can Share food drive for 2020 was changed from a combination of food and monetary donations, to just monetary donations. $501,211 was raised during the week-long fundraiser.
According to the food bank, the money will pay for over 1.5 million meals for residents in the South Plains Food Bank's service area.
Dina Jeffries, the CEO of the South Plains Food Bank said on Facebook, "I’m incredibly proud to be part of an organization that delivers its mission with passion. This year’s U Can Share “fund” drive looked really different - and despite all the unexpected challenges and difficulties 2020 has thrown at us - we exceeded our goal and raised $501,211!! This equates to 1.5M meals for our food-insecure neighbors! I’m so grateful to live in a community that is willing to serve others and believes in kindness and charity!"
The U Can Share food drive is the South Plains Food Bank's largest fundraiser each year and has been partnered with United Supermarkets for over 20 years.
Kyle Rogers, who you occasionally hear during Ryan Hyatt's Raiderland on Talk 1340, said on Facebook, "I can not begin to say how proud I am to be a part of the most amazing community around. Also, the staff of the South Plains Food Bank is amazing. Thank you all for putting up with my daily videos and constant explaining of the need in the 20 county service area of the SPFB. Lubbock and the South Plains came through once again to take care of our own."
