Store managers and employees are being asked to do more than ever before.

Managers are called on by owners/corporate to keep their stores clean, friendly, and looking good. Most of these instructions are then passed down to the employees, who hopefully execute them well for a good-looking store. Nowhere in their job description is there anything about dealing with a global pandemic.

Unruly customers have always been a part of the job, but the douchebaggery out there has taken things to new limits.

Now, these employees who are working on the frontline during the coronavirus pandemic have to deal with something that they have zero control over. The employees that the public interacts with have no control over store policies. Acting like a jerk for something that is beyond their control gets you nowhere. It just shows you're an ignorant, abusive person.

If you have a problem with mask policies, take it up with Governor Greg Abbott or local city officials. Yelling at the guy at the convenience store serves no purpose other than to make you look like an idiot.

I recently had an online conversation with a kid around 20 to 21 years old who works inside one of the clothing stores on the west side of town. He had a good attitude, but was seriously beat down by dealing with jerks in public.

There's just no reason for this. You wouldn't want your own kids treated this way, so respect the fact that these are other people's sons and daughters. There is just no way a kid should be as world-weary as some of these kids are.

Just be nice. Wear your mask in public, or stay home. It's not that hard to be a good citizen.
