Austin Crowned The Barbecue Capital Of America
Here's a point of pride for Texas, we have the #1 barbeque city in the nation. We are the kings of the "low and slow". In fact, we also have the #2 barbeque city in the nation.
As luck would have it, today, May 16th is National Barbeque Day. The day started off not-so-good when a survey said, "Do you prefer hotdogs or hamburgers at your barbeque?". This a real problem. We have "barbeques" in which things are grilled, but actual "barbeque" is a whole other thing.
Around Texas I would say that beef brisket is the king. Pulled pork, ribs, chicken, and sausage make fine runners up. Since Texas is "cattle country" it's no surprise that beef leads the way.
Yelp took a look at the reviews of the top barbeque restaurants, and Austin, Texas is making people very happy and lands at #1. While they don't list the spots mentioned, Franklin Barbeque, Iron Works, Terry Black's, and my personal favorite "The Green Mesquite" would all be pretty excellent places to visit. There are also a number of food trucks on this list.

#2 is a bit of surprise to me, but it's San Antonio, Texas. I have not had the privilege of visiting for food, but "Smoke Shack" was voted best barbeque in San Antonio. There also seem to be no shortage of places that earned over 4 and a half stars.
So there you have it! Texas is totally tops in barbeque. It's also very safe to say that this barbeque excellence has spread throughout Texas.
