School Districts around the State of Texas are still hearing from the Governor's office and from the Texas Attorney General. And in some cases now, the state is taking school districts to court over mask mandates that go against Governor Greg Abbott's mask mandate ban.

This past Friday, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued six different school districts that have put mask mandates into effect. Round Rock, Sherman, Spring, Richardson, Galveston, and Elgin School Districts all had lawsuits filed against them for "unlawful political maneuvering".

According to the Texas Tribune, more than 85 school districts have put into place some type of mask mandate. That includes Paris Independent School District which made mask wearing part of the dress code in an attempt to get around the Governor's orders. On Tuesday, Attorney General Ken Paxton announced that his office had secured a temporary restraining order against Paris ISD's mask order.

In a statement, the Texas Attorney General said that the temporary restraining order was a first step again rogue local officials.

“The law is clear, and this superintendent knows this, yet he has no issue continuing to waste precious state resources on impossible lawsuits instead of providing for his students,” Attorney General Paxton said. “This temporary restraining order is just the first step in restoring order to our great state and ending this disruption from rogue local officials.”

A Lamar District Court agreed with Paxton that Paris ISD lacked the authority to force a mask mandate on students and staff. Even if it was part of the dress code. Expect the court battles to continue on these mask mandates as many schools will want to fight the issue in court as long as they can.
