Background

According to Everything Lubbock, The Texas Department Of Public Safety is trying to add 500 new officers. Right now they are sitting at a little under 4200 officers. Asking you if they have enough officers is very much a valid question. Do you enough Texas DPS vehicles on the streets? Have you been in a situation where you needed and officer and was one available, and what was the wait time? Ulike the folks who "make the donuts", this is a public service, and you, the taxpayer, kind of has the final say.

More "Helpers"

In addition to the 500 officers, the Texas DPS is looking to add a little over 1500 non-commissioned officers. The would be people who work in places like the drivers license's offices. It's a big ask, but the official in the story claims that Texas is "way behind".  I can only say that the folks at drivers license seemed to really be on top of things when I went, but that's just in my little ol' town.

You Decide

So what can be said about this, well to be brutally honest, most people don't want to see police around until they need them. It's sad fact that we like our peacekeepers out of site, so who knows how reasonable these requests for extra personnel are. I would like to believe that the man up top knows the true needs of the department, but this could also be one of those ask-for-a-lot-so-you-get-a-little situations.

9 Texas Hospitals Get Dismal "D" Rating For Patient Safety

According to The Leapfrog Group, which has collected patient safety data for over 20 years, these were the worst-scoring Texas hospitals for patient safety for Fall 2024.

The Leapfrog Group uses many criteria to produce these scores- everything from how well doctors communicate to how often they leave dangerous items inside patients after surgeries.
