If you’re looking to travel this summer, you may not have to look any further than the Lone Star State.

In WalletHub’s list of the 100 Best Summer Travel Destinations, Texas landed a whopping seven entries. That’s especially impressive when you consider some states didn’t place a single city on the list.

So let’s get right to the rankings.

Texas Cities Ranked Among The Best Summer Travel Destinations

3 — Austin-Round Rock-Georgetown, TX Metro Area
11 — San Antonio-New Braunfels, TX Metro Area
20 — Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land, TX Metro Area
21 — Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX Metro Area
33 — El Paso, TX Metro Area
59 — Corpus Christi, TX Metro Area
99 — McAllen-Edinburg-Mission, TX Metro Area

How WalletHub Ranked The Cities

The survey used six major categories, each made up of smaller metrics. Those categories included Travel Costs & Hassles, Local Costs, Attractions, Weather, Activities, and Safety.

So as you can see, this wasn’t just somebody throwing darts at a map. The WalletHub crew put together a pretty detailed breakdown.

Some Of The Rankings Are A Little Surprising

Looking at the list as someone who has done a fair amount of traveling around Texas, it’s a little surprising to see Dallas rank only fourth among Texas cities.

You would think being adjacent to things like Six Flags Over Texas and the Dallas Cowboys would have pushed the Metroplex even higher, but apparently not.

Meanwhile, Austin is an interesting case because it doesn’t really have a giant theme-park-style attraction. What it does have is a huge mix of entertainment, nightlife, food, music, and outdoor activities — and apparently that combination works pretty well.

Texas Continues To Be A Summer Destination Giant

At the end of the day, seven Texas metro areas landing on the list says a lot about just how much variety the state offers travelers.
