The Big Story

You are not going to find the nuts and bolts of how the football portal works here. You're not going to get an advanced class in it either. You're going to get the meat and potatoes of how things are looking for Texas Tech, an overview if you will, of what might be one of the biggest college football turnarounds ever.

Playing The Game

It's the age of N.I.L. and Texas Tech is equipped to play that game. I've long said we would never have a championship team because the top football players don't have much interest in a remote town like Lubbock. What they do have interest in is cashing in while they can. It doesn't matter if you think money is ruining college sports, what matters is that this is where we are now, and it's working for Texas Tech recruiting.

Winning The Game

Apparently there are some deep pockets helping Texas Tech put together what 24/7 Sports calls the #1 recruiting class in the nation (things are snowballing so quick, we were at #2 when I began watching it a few days ago). Tech topped LSU and Ole Miss by hauling in 17 commitments. This is absolutely HUGE for a program that frankly didn't have a lot of tradition or a big national profile coming in. Drilling down to Big 12, Texas Tech blows away the #2 team Colorado who is sitting at 10 commits.

Winning The Championship

At this point I think Coach McGuire has proved he can coach college football. He's has done fairly well with the resources he had. Donors no doubt thought the same thing and are now stepping up to support the program. Yes, this is "buying players" but that's the game post N.I.L. If McGuire does well with his teambuilding, we could be looking at something pretty unstoppable.
