Texas Tech Students Go Viral for Braiding the Grass on Campus
When you're a student living on campus, you have to figure out creative ways to entertain yourself. Many students do that by going to bars, racing Lime scooters, or going to sporting events. However, sometimes that doesn’t cut it and you have to really think out of the box. That is what seems to have led these two Texas Tech students to braid grass in their free time.
Yes, you read that right. They took it upon themselves to braid the grass that grows outside of the Murdough dorm on campus. They posted a video on TikTok showing their styling talents and asking for help with the project on December 12th, 2021. The video went viral on TikTok with 294.4 thousand views and 71.3 thousand likes.

When I first saw the video and read the caption, I was confused. I initially thought they were attempting to braid the kind of grass you would have as a lawn, so I didn’t know how they would be braiding short grass like that. My confusion was then cleared up when they showed the tall decorative grass that they were actually working with.
Looking at the comments on the video, many people said that they would happily help them with their braiding adventure. Several even said that they were on their way despite living hours away. Other commenters were concerned about the timing of the post due to it being posted during finals week. I would agree that maybe their time should be spent studying for those finals, but as a former Tech student, I also understand the need for mindless activities like this to take your mind off of the stress of finals week.
Next time I am on campus I’ll have to take a look and see if any of the grass is braided. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this continuing as some sort of tradition on campus from now on. As long as it isn’t damaging the grass and hard work the Texas Tech landscapers put in, then I think it is a fun and harmless little trend.
