Texas Woman Allegedly Tried to Drown 3-year-old Girl in Possible Hate Crime
Elizabeth Wolf, 42, was charged with attempted murder after police allege she tried to drown a 3-year-old Muslim girl in an apartment complex swimming pool in Euless, Texas last May. Authorities have recommended that prosecutors also charge Wolf with a hate crime.
On May 19th cops were dispatched after reports of a disturbance between two women. Witnesses allege Wolf seemed to be intoxicated at the time of the incident, and that not only did she attempt to grab a 6-year-old boy first, but she also allegedly tried to drown a 3-year-old girl.
Both children were playing at the pool under their mother's supervision when Wolf allegedly approached their mother and asked where they were from. Reports allege Wolf tried to grab the mother's 6-year-old son, but he was able to pull away. She then directed her attention toward the mother's 3-year-old daughter and forced her under the water while making statements about her "not being American and other racial statements."
The mother, who was wearing a hijab at the time of the disturbing incident, is originally from Palestine. She and all of her children are American citizens. She vocalized her distress over racial and ethnic tension in the United States in a statement published by CAIR saying, "...I don't know where to feel safe with my kids. My country is facing a war, and we are facing hate here."
The alleged use of racial language in the scenario may be grounds for hate crime charges for Wolf, and Shaimaa Zayan, operations manager for the Council on American-Islamic Relations is calling on authorities for further investigation.
