One of many people’s favorite parts of the holidays is baking and enjoying delicious sweet treats. My personal favorite, and the one that I am on the mission to perfect, is the sugar cookie.

Who doesn’t love a buttery cookie decorated with delicious frosting and festive sprinkles? For me, nothing is more iconic than a Christmas tree-shaped cookie with those red, green, and white sprinkles on top. The only problem is that sugar cookies can actually be more difficult to make than you might think.

Thankfully, I was scrolling through TikTok when I came across Katie Larimore’s profile. There I found a video she made providing three great tips for making the perfect sugar cookies this holiday season. Loving her advice, and thinking more people deserve to know about it, I wanted to share those tips with you here.

Tip #1

If making a large batch of dough, section it into three parts before putting it into the fridge to chill. This makes it easier to roll out since the batches are smaller, and lets you keep parts of the dough in the fridge while rolling out another section.

Tip #2

Use powdered sugar instead of flour when rolling out your dough. This helps avoid the dough drying out from too much flower and simply tastes better. Also, roll the dough out between parchment paper for an easier time.

Tip #3

Do NOT overbake your cookies. Sugar cookies tend to look underdone even when they are ready, so don’t be tempted to overbake. Once the edges are the slightest bit brown, take them out to cool. This ensures that you have soft sugar cookies and not hard ones.
