When Will The Cooler Weather Hit Lubbock And The South Plains?
We're all ready for a break from this relentless Texas heat.
The Heat Is On
I hate to tell you this, but the heat is here to stay and for a long time. I already have plants in my backyard that burned up from being too exposed to the sun and constant heat. I've taken steps to save the rest, but I don't have high hopes for the next month.
We'll Be Cookin'!
When talking about future weather, you can only go with historical averages. These days we've actually been trending above historical averages, so the information I have for you is just a baseline for where things have happened in the past. In short, it's going to stay hot for a month.
What To Watch For
It's likely that temperatures will be over 90 until the last day of the month. On the 31st, 89 is the historical high. It's usually mid September before mid-80's are the norm. It will be October before 80 degrees and below is the norm. We will then drift down from the upper 70's to the lower 70's throughout the month of October.
Define "Cooler"
All of this begs the question, "What is cooler weather?" While those highs seem high, I would say when the morning lows hit the mid 50's and that would be near the end of September. That's nearly two full months away and a lot of heat to deal with in the meantime.
The Caveat
There's always a chance of some type of weather event poppin' in and giving us a break. We can hope that we can see some cloud cover and/or some showers to take just a little bit of an edge of the heat. Barring a weather event, settle in and try to stay cool!
