Are you ready for some inside poop? Here's the band we were hoping to have play what used to be known as the FMX Big Purple Party this year and why the show didn't happen.

Let's deal with the elephant in the room. Evidently, there's a Dallas event called The Purple Party who threatened to sue us if we didn't quit using the name. No big deal. If the show returns in 2017, we'll call it the "The Purple Spot Party" or something like that. This happened after it became evident there would be no show in 2016, so it almost doesn't matter.

Anyways, we had a great lineup ready to go.

Disturbed was going to be the headliner. We had an offer in for them on a perfect Saturday night. In addition, we had an offer in for Sixx A.M. to co-headline the gig. The undercard was a who's who of new rock (baby bands). It was all set.

But then, Sixx A.M. turned the offer down. And the nail in the coffin was the devastating news that Disturbed decided to take the day off so one (or some) of the band members could attend a wedding in Austin (I'm just going with what we were told here). Yeah, seriously.

By the time that we got the final "no" from Disturbed, it was just too late to find another headliner.

We just didn't feel right calling it "The FMX Big Purple Party" if it wasn't big. So I guess this leads to the big question: Will there be one in 2017? Well, it's simple. If we're fortunate enough to have a nice festival lineup with a decent headliner, heck yes. If we don't think the lineup is killer, we'd rather just let the first ones live on in infamy.
