Will Texans Adopt A New Social Network?
A new social network has launched, but will Texans migrate to it?
Do We Need Another Social Network?
I was just thinking the other day that most of the division out there could be traced back to social networks. Of course, we've all been fighting with each other all over the world since the beginning of time, but social networks have made fighting convenient and with far fewer repercussions than there should be.
A Lesson Learned
I never found Twitter to be personal enough, and Facebook has also become a place where your drunken uncle can pass along conspiracy theories and unwanted political opinions. I was very excited when "Threads" came along and for about three weeks it was nirvana, with nothing but shiny happy people having a good time. Threads then quickly degenerated into many of the worst things about Twitter.
The New Blood
The new thing is called "Bluesky" and it is a social network from one of the co-creators of the original Twitter. I see no reason to hope that it will be anything different than its forebearers so I'm not taking the jump until it's been proven otherwise. There is one feature that might make this a worthwhile proposition though. They are working on protocols that will allow you to take your whole social network and move it from platform to platform. The way the description reads is that you'll be able to take your posts, pictures, and friends and relocate them to wherever suits you. The ability to move when things get too weird does seem like an attractive proposition.
So Will You Move?
I think a lot of Texans are like me at this point and will adopt a wait-and-see attitude. I think at this point, no matter what social network you've been on, there's a real feeling of "Oh no, I'm not falling for that again".
