Whataburger Fans Weigh In On Yelp’s Surprising Survey

A new survey shows an old foe winning as #1 in the race for "Best Burger Chain". The Texas choice ranked way lower than expected.

Let's start with the fact that surveys are what they are, and that may be very different from reality. It's possible to make anything popular or unpopular, all you have to do is slice those metrics right. Such is the case with a new Yelp survey.

When Yelp! issues a survey they immediately put themselves in the drivers seat and authority on the subject. The reality is, only certain types of people submit reviews. This can lead to some surprising results.

So the survey is often quoted as "Best 25 Burger Chains In The U.S", when the proper name should be "The Highest Rated Burger Chains According To People Who Took The Time To Rate A Burger Chain On Yelp".

A New Survey Has In-N-Out At Number One While Whataburger Lags Surprisingly Low

Yes, you can tell I'm already salty about this. Not only did In N' Out Burger take the top spot, the Texas favorite Whataburger was ranked all the way down in 14th place. These are the kind of results that make Yelp! looks worse, and not Whataburger.

I guess defining "chains" is also subjective. I haven't heard of many of the places ranked about Whataburger. I've never even been near The Habit Burger Grill, Islands Restaurants, Wayback Burgers, Mooya Burgers, or even a place called Cook Out.

So what did we learn here? I guess that it's easy for us to get suckered in by information that we don't like. I lived a block away from an In N' Out Burger, and I'd still pick Whataburger every time.
