I've said it before and I'll say it again, the 90's weren't specifically about the "grunge" sound, it was about ushering a bunch of new bands of all types in while pushing the burnouts out.  When you think about it, relatively few of the bands that broke through in the 90's could be described as "grunge"...

I've sat through very few concert films in my life. For me, concerts are generally about the energy of the experience. With Mad Season, the art and emotion is so intense, it carried the film in such a way that I couldn't turn it off. Finally a clean copy of the film is available and I have the best know song for you after the jump.

One of the oddest "hits" of the grunge era was The Flaming Lip's "She Don't Use Jelly".  There was just something about the song that not only made you sing along, but make up parodies on the spot (pretty much anything with the suffix "een" on it.  More after the jump.

As I look back over all the bands I've seen come and go, there are few that were more tragically overlooked than U.P.O.  U.P.O. was a bridge between grunge and metal, and rightfully so.  They delivered one stellar album which performed modestly, then a second album that was really noticed at all.  More after the jump.

I've been running back some of my favorite 90's tracks on the Flannel Channel.  It's really just an extension of a feature that the RockShow ran for a couple of years.  You may have never even have heard the feature because we did it each morning at 5:40 and before that at 5:10.   The point is, when you're looking at the 90's, how do you even get started with the band Nirvana?  I explain how, afte

I haven't brought you a "Flannel Channel" in a while and it's high time we bring it back!  Can you think of a better song for the so called those Lyin' Mayans!!! As predicted by every sane person on the planet, we're still here and so is this 90's flannel classic.  More after the jump.

It's a little bit "southern rock" with a whole lot of grunge. One of my favorite tracks from the era was this one that debuted in 1995.  More after the jump.

What a better way to celebrate Presidents Day this Monday than with a FlannelChannel entry from The Presidents of The United States Of America?  Riding the grunge wave out of Seattle, the band dropped their worldwide debut in 1995 (though earlier versions were available).  More after the jump.

It's time for some "learnin'" and "educatin'", it's "The Flannel Channel".  If you're a fan of comedies you've probably heard this song a dozen times.  This song was pretty much the main theme to the Jim Carey comedy "Dumb & Dumber".  Pete Droge didn't just come along the same time as grunge, he was also from Washington State like many grunge pioneers.

Right smack in the middle of grunge came "The Hunger" out of Houston Texas.  I loved the addition of the keyboards to the traditional down tempo grunge.  I also liked how the vocals during the chorus sounded really reminiscent of James Hetfield of Metallica.  More after the jump.

Some of you have no freakin' idea how POWERFUL Pearl Jam was at their peak. They've mellowed and grown older gracefully, but in their day there was no better band on stage. This video shows a baby faced Eddie Vedder belting out the classic and later beating the holy hell out of the stage with his mic stand. This is pure energy and aggression. Check out this video and you'll see why, for a short pe

You know all those great grunge bands you hear on the radio?  The Screaming Trees inspired them.  The 'Trees were around before Nirvana, Pearl Jam and the like. They were part of the scene when Soundgarden, Green River and The Melvins ruled.  More after the jump.
