People from Lubbock seem to have a special kind of twang that you don't hear in other parts of Texas that sets us apart from the rest of the state. I don't know exactly why we speak the way we do, but I love it, and I ain't stoppin'.

I didn't realize just how different we sounded to other people until I moved up to a northern state. They were fascinated by the weird crap that came out of my mouth, things that most of us don't even realize we're saying wrong at all.

17 Words People Say Wrong in Lubbock

I'm not convinced we are totally wrong. I actually find the Lubbock accent to be endearing. Maybe because I'm from here. Maybe because it's just another thing that sets up apart from everyone else and makes us special.

Whatever the case, I asked my friends to share with me their favorite quirky Lubbock pronunciations of common words. There were several other notable phrases that I decided I couldn't go without sharing:

"Shoulda/Coulda" = Should have/Could Have

"Jeet-chet?" = Did you eat yet?

"PREformance" = Performance.

"Put it rat cheer" = Put it right here.

"Awful a sudden" = All of a sudden.

"Y'all'dve" = You all would have.

"Sale/Sell" = We just kind of pick one and go with it. Screw the rules.
