5 Reasons Why Lubbock Is A Fantastic, Incredible Place To Live
We have got to turn the Lubbock bus around and get it headed back to Positiveville (I just invented that place).
Lubbock has taken some hits recently, including being called the "Third Most Dangerous City In Texas". I saw another stat the other day and I just shook my head and thought, "I can't do this again". I know we can do better, and one of the best ways to get there is to show a little gratitude for the things we have. I hope you'll agree that these five things make Lubbock pretty darn special, even if in tiny little ways.
The Support For The Red Raiders Is Admirable
You cannot dispute that this town supports Texas Tech. Yes, sometimes that support ebbs and flows, but we are behind the home team. We treat Texas Tech like a baby brother, we may be mean to 'em from time to time, but god help anyone else who thinks they're going to pick on them.
The Smell Of Barbeque And Green Chilis Roasting
I hope this isn't just me, but I love the smell, particularly on game day of all those barbeques going at once. The only other better community-wide smell is when United Supermarkets starts up those Hatch Chili roasting things (no this is not a commercial, I really, really love that smell).
Everything Is Numbered And Easy To Find
There are not many large cities that have continued the tradition of numbering their streets sequentially. Yes, we all have Google Maps now, but it still rocks to count yourself closer and closer to your goal because the (mostly) east/west streets are numbered.
For The Most Part, People Let Other People Live Their Lives
Oh yes, Lubbock has its share of bigots and busybodies who want to get up in your business, but it doesn't take long to notice that those instances of hatefulness are the same people over and over. For the most part, Lubbock is a "you do you and I'll do me" kind of town.
Lubbock Will Give You A Chance
I guess I'll keep this business oriented but it does apply to some other areas. Lubbock will turn out for a new place, sometimes to the point of silliness (lines around the block). There's one thing though, you had better be good that first time, and if you aren't better the second time, then this town is done with you. That's okay, two chances are better than none.
