The Birth of the Frozen Margarita: A Texas Original
Frozen margaritas are our birthright, after all. While the first margarita with blended crushed ice was concocted in California in the 1940s, it was in 1971 in Dallas, Texas, that the margarita machine was invented, giving us those incredibly smooth cocktails we know and love. The orginal margarita machine from Mariano's Mexican Cuisine is held at the National Museum of American History (see? it's our history!) and Mariano's is still open, so if you want the real O.G., it's a "short" drive from Lubbock.

Why Frozen Margaritas Became a Texas Tradition
Well, it's hot, and we love to pair it with Mexican food. The invention of the margarita machine by Mariano Martinez was under fortuitous auspices: it coincided with a new Texas law that allowed for "liquor by the drink" in dining rooms, replacing former laws that required membership in a private club.
